Grif notes a set of scans I use to find other bad things.
But first, because it's both browsers and Word I think you have some other malware rather than just a browser issue.
I'd complete what Grif notes at http://forums.cnet.com/7726-6122_102-5509131.html?tag=posts;msg5509131 then reset my browsers, reboot and try it again.

Hello!
I don't have a great understanding of how laptops actually work, I mainly use mine to type up assignments and browse the Internet, so I come here to you people with knowledge as browsing similar threads has not completely solved my problem.
I have had this Acer Aspire V11 for five months now and for the past couple of weeks it started to slow down significanly, to the point that it would take it five minutes to launch a Word document and up to fifteen for Chrome. When I tried running the antivirus scan (with McAfee), it kept halting and stopped at 47% for approx two days before I closed it.
From the Task Manager, it seems that the CPU usage and the Disk usage keep going from something absurdly low, under 10%, to 99-100%, alternating every few minutes and that was acknowledged as a problem with Windows 8 in some other threads (I use windows
. I tried a lot of the solutions suggested (stop the 'BITS' from running, a scan that I cannot find again now but that did not evidence issues) but it still seems significantly slow and I would like to ask you if you have any suggestions?
Not sure which extra info might be useful, but it is 4B DDR3 memory, 500GB HDD. There seems to be no particular issues with the Memory (average of 45-55% on Task Manage) and I literally only run browsers, Skype, and programs from microsoft office.
Thank you lots to anyone who stops to help ![]()
