Question

Aspect ratio change with Format Factory, etc.

Aug 11, 2013 8:35PM PDT

I need some avi files to modify AR (aspect ratio) - from 4:3 to 16:9. Video players in the pc it can play without distortion, my older Sony dvd player does not. How it is possible to do it with transcoding programs such as Format Factory or similar? I tried it in AnyVideoConverter, but that it can only to crop that file (up and down). So the result is not it, distortion remained. I prefer to use a simple utility instead of video editors.
Thanks for the advice
Peter

Most 16:9 TV's have options how to display 4:3 contents, so you can choose between black bars on both sides or losing top and bottom. Those options can be used without changing the source. Wouldn't it be easier to use that feature of your TV?

Answer
I'd use the TV feature. Why?

Because to make a 16x9 video I have to embed the black bars into the video and that means the file size can bloat. Most folk I know won't like that.
