Asking about Powerpoint and hopefully installation...

Sep 3, 2005 3:45PM PDT

I have Windows 98SE with 256MB RAM, but I do not have Microsoft Powerpoint. On my older one that I just gave to the kids there is Powerpoint there on the Windows 98.
Oooppps, upon checking start/find/files and folders Microsoft powerpoint with a program icon came up in the results...and when I clicked it to open it I was told this computer performed an illegal operation.
I assume it is not on the computer no longer as when I went to the path this said C:Program Files/..it was not in Explore.
Anyway what I would like to know is as I do not have a disk for this computer for programs or such, am I able to transfer the Powerpoint program from the other to this computer?
I do have a Jumpdrive 2.0 pro with 256MB that I could use perhaps or is a floppy enough?
I have used the Jumpdrive for another program on the same computers and the family history did not transfer...only the basic program itself.
Reason I need Powerpoint is I have just ordered a CD from the local Aussie football club that my youngest son plays for...and the coach said you need powerpoint to see the slide show with music on the CD.
Thank you Happy
Mandy

No and (luckily) yes.

Mandy,

No, you can't copy Powerpoint from another PC. You need to buy an MS Office CD, and they aren't free.

Yes, you can view Powerpoint presentations with the free Powerpoint viewer from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=428d5727-43ab-4f24-90b7-a94784af71a4&displaylang=en (and it still runs under Windows 98SE, it says).
You better tell the coach about the existence of this viewer. It would be a pity if anybody not thinking about asking around would feel obliged to spend money to buy the full program, I'd say.

If you ever want to make presentations yourself, consider www.openoffice.org for a free program (full Microsoft compatibel office suite, including word processor, spreadsheet and presentation tool). But you don't need it for just viewing something someone else made.

Hope this helps.

Thanks heaps for this advice...not just for me either.
There are people at the footy presentation who did not order a slide show....who now will be able to.
I am contacting the club today to let them know!
Not only that the openoffice program will suit me perfectly as I am planning a family reunion in 12 months for my family as I have been tracing the family tree and have 22 children in my great grandparents generation...perfect!
Thanks tons Grin
