Asked if want to save document when I didn't make a change

Feb 22, 2007 7:49AM PST

My OS is XP Home with M$ Office XP installed. I keep getting asked if I want to save a document upon close even though I didn't make any changed to it.

How do I keep this from happening. I recently re-installed M$ Word and I recall previously there was a procedure to block being asked if I want to save even though nothing was changed. Can't remember what it was though.

Thanks,

G.F.K.

That's proper.

Some fields update just by opening the document. To avoid this, open document in readonly mode.

Found The Fix I Previously Was Given

Back in August 2005 Kees Bakker gave me the following link that was specifically for Word 2002, but thought it might work with Word XP. It certainly did. Take a look at Kees' suggested fix that WORKED!

Thanks for responding though. Kees' fix is more versatile than opening the document in read only.
