Actually, ask.com is a website, and you can't remove a website from where it is locate (on some server, not on your PC).

How to prevent it from turning up on your PC depends on where exactly it appears. So please tell more about that.

You mean your homepage (the first screen you see)? Then choose another one you like more.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/wrong-home-page-opens-when-i-start-firefox-how-fix tells how.

Just a tip: when installing software you downloaded be sure to use a "custom install" and then uncheck everything you don't want. That way you install less unwanted toolbars and defaiult search engines and homepages, but it's not a 100% guarantee that it will never happen again.

Hijacked. First got to the page you want as your home page and highlight and hit control-C to copy the link to memory (buffer). The go to the borwser settings or tools and paste the address of your preferred home page link. Also I would look at your search engine to make sure ASK isn't the default and replace it with your preferred search Google, Bing or whatever. I would goto program and features in the Control Panel and order by date and make sure there isn't anything that was installed without you knowledge.
