Which Program Added the Ask Toolbar? Avira Maybe??
Nov 23, 2011 12:46AM PST

If you've downloaded the new Avira Antivirus program, if you follow the default install, it will include the Ask toolbar as part of the process.. You can remove the Ask toolbar by opening the Control Panel/Programs and Features section, then clicking once on the Avira program listing and choose to "Change" the program.. By following the prompts, you see a listing for "Webguard Protection".. UNCHECK that particular box and the toolbar should be removed..As the toolbar is the primary component of the "Webguard Protection" option, it will also be removed. Still, the Avira program protects you against such things anyway.. Not a big loss.

If it's not Avira related, then the toolbar should be listed in Programs and Features and can be uninstalled from there. It might also be found in Internet Explorer in "Tools- Manage Add-Ons-Toolbars and Extensions where you can uninstall it. If you can't find it there, try using the Revo Uninstaller (free version) from the link below:

Hope this helps.

Once Again.. Which Program Added The Ask Toolbar?
Nov 23, 2011 4:52AM PST

Frequently, the program that installs the toolbar will also have removal instructions listed on their site.

Changed the homepage yet? Do it from the "Internet Options" location..That should remove it from being set as your hompage.. In addition, to take IE back to its original state, open Control Panel-Internet Options, then the "Advanced" tab, then press the "Reset" button.

I'm not sure it will detect "Ask" as malware but you could certainly try either of the free malware removal tools below. They identify a number of toolbars listed as "adware" and Ask may be one of them.

SUPERAntispyware Removal Tool

Malwarebytes Antimalware

Hope this helps.
