ASC - a sneaky little plot

Mar 9, 2010 11:17AM PST

Who noticed the latest free version 3.5 of Iobit's Advanced System Care set-up file dropped in size by 1.3 MB (c.f. 3.4.2), in spite of promoted new features? More efficient code? Not likely, my bet is it's been nobbled.
It's accompanied by a comparison with the paid version showing, if you study it, that basically the free version does very little.
If you just press the RUN button for the file download, you'll be automatically updated to new a useless version. I suppose there is some slimy little marketer that thinks this is a good ploy.
I save the version set-up files for these things to compare them, and to allow me to reinstall the old one when they pull this sort of trick.
I am just a humble pensioner, and have to watch my pennies. ASC has been a great help over the last couple of years, and Iobit have been right up there on my list of suppliers for hardware come upgrade time. Now I have scrubbed them off.
