Question

Arrow keys all screwed up

Aug 9, 2017 1:28PM PDT

I'm not exactly sure what happened, but my up arrow key is now w, same with the other arrow keys respectively. My a,s,d keys work fine but my w key is now the left arrow key. I can switch them with a button on my keyboard but doesn't fix it. I know it's not the keyboard as I plugged another one in and found the same problems. I also noticed that in games all the keys work fine, doing exactly what they are supposed to.

Answer
changed a function key setting

Look on your function keys and see if there are other emblems on them. One of them controls switching from normal key use to gaming key use. Change it back. If unsure, consult your manual on the keyboard. What keyboard is this? Model number?

Keyboard

It's an Xtreme Wired Gaming Keyboard, model number 8018678. Can't find anything online about it.

I use an Eagle Tec that does same

It's also a mechanical keyboard. On mine, if I hold the FN key and then press all four ASDW keys at at the same time it switches those keys with the arrow keys. To change back I do the same.

found I could do the switching on mine by using the FN key with the W key alone.

Nope

Tried both to no avail. It's only when I'm not in game which is even weirder.

Fixed it, installed SharpKeys and found the remappings in there for some reason. Deleted and restarted, now we good. Wew lad, that was close.

Good to read.

The article wrote "It is possible to arbitrarily remap keys via the registry. I think you will need a third-party tool to fix this (SharpKeys, for example)"
