The other day I installed 2004 on a friends computer but it didn't recognize the product key. And now will not fully uninstall because during uninstall it instructs to insert the CD. But there is no CD because it was a direct download from symantec. Can't even uninstall it in Safe Mode nor do a clean uninstall. And Symantec wants $30 to help. To top it all off it keeps throwing up a popup asking for the product code. Appearantly he's now going to have to reinstall the OS.
Fortunately myself, I have NSW 2002 Wich has always worked perfect for me (knock on wood). If I don't renew I think I'll use AVG 6 Free Edition. But keep the NSW utilities.
I feel for ya buddy, I have been trying to make Norton SystemWorks pro 2004 work for the past 2 days.
my system crashed at the end of the product activation (fault of unchecked spyware and adware im afraid) so I got rid of all that. NSW2004 still didnt work so i reinstalled. but of course the uninstall process does nothing for the configuration files which are god knows where.. I used regedit to delete the most obvious entries IE searching for "symantec" or "norton" entrys or even "sym" and I deleted everything I was sure belonged to nsw. But all I acheived was getting it to ask for my cd key again, but alas no product activation. I dont know what to do!! So I'm with you, someone NEEDS to make a small program that strips symantecs files clean from your registry and hdd.
