For operational response, yeah I think we are just to dependent on computer models. They're getting better and are valuable to consider, but I don't think we have to hold all decision making until the "computer results" are available, ya know? Especially in emergency situation...

Dear Buzz Gang and Crew,
Are we as a modern culture becoming too reliant on supercomputers? There are 4 supercomputers now working on the oil spill and yet as of "Day 54" our modern technology has not yet gotten us much further than the day that it happened. I wonder if our own human ingenuity and brain power will go unused to solving complex societal problems?
To date, these supercomputers are "On-Tap" for the Oil Spill:
Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) - Ranger supercomputer

National Center for Atmospheric Research / Los Alamos National Laboratory Supercomptuer (NCAR)

Notre Dame SuperComputers - ADCIRC Supercomputer

New Mexico Computer Applications Center and Oak Ridge National Laboratory - NCAR Supercomputer

Just a thought people. Later ![]()
