Are unofficial ports on custom roms safe?

Im using carbon rom unofficial port from xda dev are they safe to use?

Some still have CIQ which is up for debate but it's all about trust. Open source systems have been infected before.

you are always installing custom roms at your own risk. They even warn you about that at xda dev.
