Question

Are there no 17.3" non-touch 2k or 4k laptops under $1000?

Mar 17, 2016 2:55PM PDT

I'm in the market for another laptop since the laptop I bought turned out to have been a manufacturing dud that I returned, however I'm finding it incredibly difficult just finding a laptop that I like, and suits my needs and wants.

6th gen i7 (doesn't have to be quad core)
17.3" screen. (I need the real estate, portability is not an issue)
minimum 2k resolution (again, screen real estate is a must)
non-touch is a biggy, already been bitten by that little feature.

Only laptop I have found so far is an Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-792G-752J, but no place sells that. Plus there's the issue of that having a price above reasonable, and extra features I don't need or want.

Already looked at Dell, Asus, Lenovo, Acer, HP, and Toshiba, no luck from their websites.

So my question. Is there a laptop manufacturer that makes a decent 17.3" non-touch 2k min resolution laptop for around 1k?

What is 2K? 1920x1080?

2K is....

Confound the Industry that has deemed it necessary to confuse people with a barrage of obscure fancy-sounding names to describe their screen resolution.

My understanding is not from set standards (though as of this writing that has changed, see link below), but reading marketized spec pages. an example is the Lenovo X1 Yoga features page, which states: "The thin X1 Yoga features a 14" 2K (2560 x 1440) touch screen display, with optional OLED technology."

After a quick bit of research, I find out courtesy of Wikipedia that 2K is 2048x1080. Go figure.

Then no.

I've yet to find any 2K display either in monitor, tablet or other places. Must be a 2020 thing? The future?

BTW.

My son owns the ROG model I listed but in 15 inch form. All good things according to him. We did however upgrade to SSD on our own.

quad core it will most likely be a XXXXU like the one in the Surface Book. Your not going to find many if any 2K laptops as most will be 1920 x 1080 or 4K. Not sure why you need non-touch as you don't have to use touch but if you don't want and someday you might find a touch app useful.

Check out Newegg.com they have plenty at 1920 x 1080 mostly with xxxxU processors on the ones under 1000.
