Resolved Question

Are situational power schemes possible?

Oct 24, 2012 8:32PM PDT

I have an EEE PC 1005HA (XP Home SP3). At home, it is connected to a Samsung SyncMaster 710v 17' external monitor. At work or on the road, I don't use an external monitor.

At home, I disable standby when lid is closed and use the external as the primary/only monitor. When I'm on the road or at the office, since there is no external monitor, I'd like the computer to go into standby when the lid is closed. It's a pain to have to remember to adjust the settings all the time, though, especially since I take the computer back and forth every day.

Is there a way for XP to recognize when the external monitor isn't present and as a result go to standby when the lid is closed?

Depends on the user's skills.

While this is not an automatic feature, it is possible with some work on the owner's part. That is, a script to set it up as they want. But some owners only use the system and won't research or write such a script.

Thanks for the response. I know that I can write up a batch file which I could execute to put the computer into standby prior to closing the lid. This still isn't ideal, but it's better than nothing.

I'll look into additional script options. Maybe I'll be able to come up with something.

Here's the starter research for this.
