Are SFF's really dying out?

May 10, 2005 9:33AM PDT

Hi, I've been thinking of buying a SFF PC, for gaming purposes. Is that a good idea? To tell you the truth,I don't have a "need" for it. Would it be better to just get a regualr desktop PC? I think the two big SFF makers are Falcon northwest and shuttle. I've read that the Fragbox is made for gaming, and Shuttles are more like Media-Center PC's.
Thanks

Don't know about the others, but Shuttle...

Shuttle makes some SFF PCs that do quite well as gaming boxes (especially for LAN parties, as a 7x8x12 box is easy to carry. I think Tom's Hardware did a comparison of some of their models, and they stacked up pretty good. They're not too terribly expandable (2 HD slots,1 optical drive slot, a AGP, and 1 PCI slot is usually all they have..and the memory slots, usually 2 I think), but they perform nice (and some of them do support socket 939- AMD 64s and AMD FXs)

Plus they actually look decent...I'm building one for my sister when she leaves for college...mmm..black brushed aluminum
(its this model: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16856101457 )
