nothing but the same

Virtually nothing but the name. These technologies are all are based on the IEEE1394 standard for digital video. Apple developed Firewire from this standard, for example, and in so doing made subtle changes here and there that are Mac-centric, but still IEEE-compliant. Other manufacturers, such as Sony, have made small but important changes to make their hardware work more efficiently with the technology. So, for example, does it makes more sense to hook up a Sony camcorder to your computer using a Sony cable rather than a Firewire cable if your computer is a Macintosh? A call to tech support may be in order... As for the names, Sony holds the trademark on iLink as Apple does for the term Firewire. The rest of the industry simply uses either of the TWO GENERIC TERMS, DV or 1394.
