Are all tv sets with component video HD-Ready?

Aug 8, 2006 11:20AM PDT

I have a 27" Sony Wega CRT television that i bought a year or two ago and i cant remember if it was HDTV or not. It does have a component video jack at the back for one of the inputs, does this mean is is hd-ready?

There are so many TVs and variables, you should really check the Sony support website. Find the decal/sticker on your TV and get the model# and use that to get all the specs of your TV. -OR- google for some info using that decal. Further, Sony being a solo act out there don't be surprised you may need some other componet or device to finsih the readiness for HDTV. HDTV is in itself so peculiar it may desire other devices or items in order for a happier viewing, again that all depends on the model# involved if it supports HDTV at all.

I have a phillips 26" widescreen with component inputs but it won't accept a high-def feed (720p/1080i). Many new TVs from a few years ago, have component inputs for better DVD display but are not HD ready. Check the Sony website to determine if your TV is HD-ready.

With that said, my phillips looks pretty darn good. 8ft away (or more), it looks much better than a typical 26" with a DVD. (I replaced it with a 27" widescreen LCD when I caught the HD bug.) So, if you've got digital cable and your Sony is a widescreen, and want to "demo" HD, I suggest you get a high-def box and hook it up.

i guess not

Well...I checked out the site and its not HDTV. The component feed does in fact give a much clearer feed though--like ramarc was saying. Well...i guess that will just have to be an excuse to get a new TV in 2010 or whenever it is that HDTV becomes standard.
