are all a/c adapters the same ?

recently purchased an item, which offers an a/c adapter for $75.00 120V/50Hz ...seems very expensive and so i am asking if any adapter 120V / 50Hz will do the same thing ? the item in question is a TENS unit

If you recall the BATTERY FIRE days and news you lay the ground work to understanding that many machines now use only the maker's chargers or "bricks."

If you wish to clear up if this or that a/c adapter may or may not work, we'll have to know what laptop or device it is intended for.

the adapter is for a TENS unit ... a battery operated neuromuscular stimulator unit..

actually the unit sold is 120 V 60 Hz ... at 80.00 seemed so expensive ..but if there is a reason for that ..well i don't want to do damage to the base unit !

Now that it's for a MEDICAL no one would ever tell you it's OK to substitute parts.
