Are 1080i upconverting DVD players compatible with 1080p TVs

by flicster / November 20, 2007 2:27 PM PST

I'm planning on buying a 1080p LCD TV soon and realized I need to upgrade my DVD player as well. I picked up the Sony 5-disc upconverting player but noticed on the box it upconverts to 1080i. Will this player work with the TV I hope to buy or will I need to buy a 1080p player? If so, are there any 1080p players currently on the market that hold more than a single disc at a time?

Yes it is compatible.

Your Sony should work just fine. If your wanting to buy a 1080p DVD player, you're talking about a Blu-ray or HD DVD player...You'll likely be spending a bit more cash on one of those than an upconverting player.

Good Luck

Thanks, but are there any 1080p upconverting DVD players?

Thanks, that's good to know ... I think I mispoke slightly above when I asked if there were any 1080p players. I meant specifically 1080p upconverting DVD players, not Blu-ray or HD-DVD players. I guess I'd also like to know if it's preferable to get 1080p upconverter for my 1080p LCD TV than use a 1080i upconverter. If so, does anyone know of any 1080p upconverting DVD players that hold more than 1 DVD at a time?
