archos dvr station troubles

Sep 30, 2007 4:25AM PDT

I have recently purchased the Archos Dvr Station for my archos 605 wifi. Usually in order to record video from my television, it requires for me to connect my TV's cable outputs to my DVR station's inputs. However I have a rear projection Sony HD TV (the Sony KDS-R60XBR2) and it doesn't have any output jacks at all. So does that mean I cannot record from my TV at all? Is there any way I can still record?

You should record from the source the TV is getting the signal....

IE... satellite box... dvd player... cable box... etc....

Plug the DVR cable inputs to the output of whatever you got... and then plug the DVR cable output to your TV input...

Its like placing the DVR station in between your TV and your signal box....

I own an AV500 and thats the way it works and im pretty sure thats the way it works for you too...

didnt the dvr bring any instructions?

excuse my english...

The problem is that I think the tuner exists inside my TV, because all I do is connect the cable wire directly to my TV. There is no secondary box that I then have to connect to my TV. Do you think if I pass my cable signals to my DVD first, then to my DVR station, then to my TV it would work?

then...

Yes... that is my problem too... cause im client of a cable company... no satellite reciever... so I plud the coaxial cable to a dvd player or a vcr... and then the RCA cables goes to my Archos DVR... and the out RCA cables goes to the TV....

Looks complicated but its not....

If you dont have a dvd player or vcr or something to plug... then I really dont know how to turn the coaxial cable to RCA... but its worth giving a try...

let me know how it goes...

Outside US... you wouldnt know them... and yes they provide a cable box for 1 tv and splitter for the rest... so my tv doesnt have any cable box... just the coaxial cable from the spliter...

anyway just try getting some method of turning it into Digital signal
if you got a VCR that would work fine

using my dvd/vcr combo to pass the signals, but I dont think its working. Its not sending through my digital signals or any of my HD channels. Is there any hub I can purchase to give my tv video outputs?

I definitely turned on the TV, but I do not know if I have to do anything else different to tune from the VCR or not. Do you happen to know how? I'll check in my manual again for it too.

I think I have a unique situation

The thing is that my I have just the basic cable service for comcast, so I generally got 30 analog channels with my prior TVs. But when I purchased my HD tv, and plugged in the coaxial cable, I also began receiving broadcasts of HD and digital channels. I recieved HD versions of channels I already had standard definition broadcasts of, and I received 480i broadcasts of some channels I never received before (e.g. Comedy Central, ESPN, etc). This occurred just through my simply connecting the coaxial cable from the wall to my TV. According to what I've heard, with the Comcast Digital Cable service, they provide you with a cable box/tuner to tune the HD channels. But my TV already picks them up, and requires no tuner in between to tune in for them. By passing through my VCR however, I am only able to recieve and thus record my standard def channels, not even the 480i ones. I do not recieve any digital channels in this manner, probably meaning that my TV is able to tune in to certain digital broadcasts by itself. That is why I can't view such channels through a VCR.
Now that leads me to ask, is there any way I can purchase anything similar to a hub or something that would allow my TV to have any output jacks. Because, what I think needs to happen is I need to connect my TV's outputs (which is does not have) to my DVR directly.

that makes some sense

you're VCR would be able to Tune to the Digital channels if it were to pass it to the Archos
(but has you tried sending the analog channels to the Archos? because if that worked we can be sure that that's the problem)

now about a Digital Tuner, yes they exist but I'm not sure if they will do the job. Again remember I wasn't familiar with how you are able to receive cable service with out the cable box. So here's such a tuner;

that's just a random one I found on eBay, just look around for an "HDTV" "ATSC" or "Digital" Tuner and you should find something maybe for a better price
