My AVCHD camera wouldn't be doing but like 2.4GB for 17 minutes.
I am looking at upgrading my camcorder. My old one saves to Digital 8 tapes and still works. I have copied many of the tapes (most are 1 hr though they said 120 min and a few saved 2 hrs) onto my computer using Studio 8, a firewire cable, and saving to "good" quality which stored approx 17 min in 4 gb.
I would like opinions on whether I have saved a reasonable quality representation of my tapes. I couldn't see enough quality difference to warrant the huge amount of disk space difference between good and best quality capture settings- but maybe I didn't test it during a tough enough time such as a high speed action scene.
I would love to use less space without giving up quality (I know, wouldn't we all) but I would recapture all my tapes if I could do better with reasonable size.
Is there a better way to capture? Is this file size about right for the length of video? When I get a new camcorder, can I expect HD video to take 4Gb for 17 min or will it be better or worse? Thanks!!
