ARCH LINUX

Are you wanting to use ARCH INUX as an OS? There should be a download available to do that as with other Linux OS's such as Ubuntu and Kubuntu, check it out on the net. I'm a little unclear as to what you want to do am just assuming. I have used Linux (dual boot) for years and really like it especially the new version of Ubuntu, 11.10, it is a beautiful alternative to Windows. Check them all out, good luck and have fun!

Nod to other versions.

Many use Ubuntu without tutorials. Most of the questions happen when stuff does not work such as a wifi adapter or a printer.

But most can boot this and get a card game or web browser with no book or tutorial.

Arch vs Ubuntu
Dec 18, 2011 2:05AM PST

Before you do either (or both) you might want to read some comparisons of the two, Arch and Ubuntu. Ubuntu tends to be a bit more user friendly for the beginner in Linux, Arch is a bit different and tends to be geared a bit more toward more serious techies and those who use it, basically it just depends on what you want to do. There are other variations of Linux such as Fedora and Mandriva and there are varying opinions on advantages on what to use and why. Personally I have stayed with Ubuntu, just as a preference for my purposes and it does what I want it to do others may opt for something else. Good luck!

Arch or ubuntu
Dec 18, 2011 7:27PM PST

Thank you for the reply I was not aware that both arch and ubuntu were operating systems , because they are just titles to me, I have put ubuntu ot a stick and what I really need is the basic knowledge to just open up either of the systems from the black screen which appears- the mouse is not operating so all I have is the arrows to get into the system when I type the instruction in I am still unable to open upeither Arch or Ubuntu, this is so silly when the simple basics are that different I cannot get in!! is there an article that really gives the simple instructions needed to show the difference between Windows and Ubuntu??

Windows Linux etc.
Dec 19, 2011 2:07AM PST

Oh there is considerable difference for sure and it does take a little bit of study and experimentation to get acclimatized to the nuances. Really in my opinion, starting out with Ubuntu, the easiest way to get going is downloading it from the site and just following the instructions, some may balk at that but generally that is the easiest method. One way to do this (some Ubuntu geeks may balk) is to use what is called the WUBI installer, very easy to do. For the neophyte user this is a piece of cake to run a dual boot set up at least starting out. Good luck, have fun!!!

Terminal

Sounds as if you are at the terminal but am not sure what you have done or downloaded. Personally I would boot back into Windows and start all over again am not sure what you have done. Normally the Linux Ubuntu download is pretty straightforward and easy to do, especially from the WUBI installer. I do not use Arch but I may do the download just for drill.
