You have been reading 2 books ("my book" and "the book") and the whole Internet, and still don't understand it. That's a problem.

Can you tell what you mean with ARC path and why you need to know it?

Answer
It's a Microsoft convention to say

At boot time a small MICROSOFT boot loader reads this and that tells it what to load. It's in CODE that is in books, MSDN, Microsoft, the internet and it took me time to read the boot.ini file to see how it set the boot devices.

You can hit the web over and over until you sort it out but I like tools like EASYBCD to deal with this.
