Question

ar5008 working, but slow speed. Any ideas?

Mar 9, 2013 7:42PM PST

Hello.
I have an old Fujitsu siemens Amilo pa1510 that had an atheros ar5005g (wireless g) card in it.
My internet line is 15/2 and the card has always maxed it out, but offcource its been slow on my local network.

So I bought an cheap N replacement in the Atheros 5008.
After putting it in and having IRQ problems(still ocurs on boot sometimes) I finaly have it working.
The problem is just that the speeds wil not reach 15 anymore on internet, it varies between 1.5-7 on down speed tested on speedtest website.
Does anyknow know this card, and is there anyway to fix the problem? im curently using latest driver from atheroz website and running winxp 32.

No other settings have been altered, and tried on 2 different routers.

Answer
PCIe does not have IRQ issues.

That issue existed way back in ISA days. I'd look at other areas. I'd also run the speed test on ethernet for a test to see if it tops out there too.

And of course, do speedtest under another OS. Today we can run OSses off a LiveCD (google livecd list) so no need to install.

strange readings.

Hm ok.
I am thinking it might get better if I install windows 7.

But I have measured the speed on a network drive.

The G card showed a connection of 54g and gave average write of 8,4 and read 8,9. Both Mbps.
The N card showed a connection of 300n and gave an average og write 2,0 and read 2,43.

Both tested with "lan speed test" program.

We moved back from 300 to 150 on the routers and noticed better speeds. Why this is, is not going to be something I will discuss in a forum. The reasons are out there for all to read but it's a common observation and the makers deserve the calls.

News to me, but I gave it a go.

Same setup npw 150(144,4)

It gave a writing of 9,45 and reading 11,6. So an improvement from G, but not where I hoped... Is there realy nothing more to gain from n than this?

Whose gain?

I wonder if the support costs are where the gains are.
