Application SYSTEM???

Sep 3, 2007 5:59AM PDT

The past few days when I start my laptop up with XP Pro from hibernation, I get a message that says Application system is trying to establish TPC connection with remote IP address 87.255.33.149 on port :80.

Is this something I should be concerned about?

Whois says it's owned by Fiberring in Haarlem, The Netherlands.

Any "no porn" applications installed?

The little I could find about that address appears to be a Russian porn site.

Time to scan this machine with all the tools you've read about here.

Wow...

I don't have a clue as to how I "stepped" in this pile of garbage. I ran Trojan Hunter, Spybot and the commercial AVG 7.5. They all reported some undesirable garbage which was removed.

So far I not getting the firewall access request that I got at the start of this thread. I hope it's gone as I don't want to do a reformat UNLESS I absolutely have to.

Since I only started getting this message a few days ago, could I have taken care of the problem with a simple System Restore operation back a few weeks or so?

Sorry.

But given all the attacks out there I can't tell if that would work. Some burrow into the system restore so the pest is restored when you use that tool.

If the tools are coming up clean and the alert is no more you have likely fixed it.
