So how to know the unknown?

The exception unknown software exception (0x40000015) is not solved with just the clues given and also may be unsolveable if the app that crashed is unsupported on this OS.

Finally you wrote XP and not XP SP3 so my first thought is to get the OS up to it's last update.

App Error

Sorry about that. I'm running XP SP3. All updates are installed. I don't have the install disc to do a clean install. Is it possible to uninstall updates, then reinstall them?

I don't see why I'd do a clean install.

You can try SFC /SCANNOW (as you are a XP owner/user I won't write at length basic commands we used) but that may require your XP CD. If you are missing the XP SP3 or OS CD, you need to fix that because at some point it will not be optional.

If it's just one app doing this, ask the app's author what's up.
