Apple-worth getting used to?

Jul 26, 2004 1:27PM PDT

Hello,
I just ordered an apple computer (12 inch powerbook 1.33ghz, 80 Gb 5400 rpm, 768 SDRAM) and I have been a PC user my whole life, is apple worth getting used to? I don't do heavy gaming and I need a light notebook because I go to high school in the city which is a 2 hour commute....should I just give the apple to my mom and not bother trying or should I try to become accustomed? The school I will be attending doesn't have a prefrence for what type of notebook so should I stay PC or try apple?

I'd go with the Apple since it's what you have.

Try out Open Office if you need to write a paper or such and you'll like the machine.

Thanks for the reply...I also thought about essays and such so I ordered the Microsoft office for mac which comes with word, powerpoint, excel, etc... At my sisters job there were apple desktops running office mac and I used word and it seemed identical to regular word...But is there a difference I missed with office mac and regular microsoft office?

Sorry, just two years ago I stepped off that upgrade treadmill. Open Office. It's what I use.

For Mac, Linux, Windows and others. Very compatible with Office.

Sorry- I didn't ask this question before but is Open Office new or not very popular because when I googled it the site that said "Open Office.org" looked quite sketchy.....

http://www.openoffice.org is where it is. Maybe they don't employ artists for the web site, but it's very popular in the circles I run.

"OpenOffice.org 1.1.2 for Mac OS X (X11)

The Mac OS X (X11) "port" of OpenOffice.org 1.1.2 is ready for download now. Designed to use the X11 windowing system, the latest release boasts significant advances over previous versions and is recommended for all Mac OS X users wanting a free and open alternative. "
