Question

Apple TV? Into Surround Receiver, and NOT TV Speakers?

by bozobyte / January 5, 2014 7:28 PM PST

My TV is an HDTV is a SAMSUNG LN46A750-R1FXZA

Question about Apple TV..
Since most HDTV 10w Speakers are not a lot to be desired, I want the HD Sound to go through my Receiver.

If I want 7.1 surround sound with HD Netflix, or HulaTV coming out of my Receiver, isn't it true that I would have to plug the Apple TV device into the Receiver, and not my TV speakers? My receiver might have an extra HDMI.
I have a YAMAHA RX-V675 7.1 CH. Receiver.
Samsung LN 46A750 HDTV (Mounted on wall)
Time-Warner Cable
......ALL PLUGGED INTO THE RECEIVER.

Thank You for any help!

Plug the AppleTV into the Receiver, via the HDMI cable, and thence to the TV, via the HDMI output of the receiver.

OR,

If your receiver does not have a spare HDMI input, you could plug directly into the TV, via HDMI, and run an optical cable from the AppleTV into your Receiver and mute the TV speakers
