Apple's Fun Event

Feb 23, 2006 9:36AM PST

What's going to come out of Apple next?

As an Mac user just wondering what others want to see Apple push out of the factory?

Personally I'd like to see a new intel powered 12" Pow..er Mac book Pro

No rumors Necessary, just what you'd like to see.

Cheese Alert
Feb 23, 2006 11:32AM PST

I'd like to see the new iPod renamed the iMadDog, it has a 3.5" color screen, but if you try to play non-DRM music on it, it sends a 500KV arc from one earbud to the other, rendering you a.... Windows User (LOL - c'mon I'm kidding guys!!!)

DVR
Feb 23, 2006 11:35AM PST

I am dying for a Mac DVR. I have been really annoyed with Tivo's poor Mac support and lack of initiative lately (except for downloadable RocketBoom and CNET w/ Molly Wood, of course), and feel like there's so much room for improvement in this space. Here's my idea of a perfect living room Mac:

* Mac Mini size
* DVR functionality
* Ability to play various audio and video formats wirelessly from networked Mac in the other room through home theater as well as saved to the hard drive.
* Wireless keyboard and mouse mean surfing the web on HDTV
* iPod dock
* Ability to play games
* Built in memory card reader, to play slideshows right off the digital camera

And there must be about a hundred other things a proper Mac hooked up to the TV should be able to do. I know it's possible...bring it, Steve!

+fast CPU and Video card
Feb 23, 2006 11:40AM PST

that would be sweet.

Add to that ...
Feb 23, 2006 12:46PM PST

Airport Express compatibility, and the ability to stream content to your tv and home theater in another room. That way, if I wanted to watch a show I recorded on my DVR, I could stream it to the TV of my choosing. Or dock my video iPod, and watch the content on the go.

I'd also like to see that iPhone come to life.

Life would be GUUUUUUUUUUUUUUD! Happy

Toshiba Qosmio but as a Mac
Feb 24, 2006 9:52PM PST

The Toshiba Qosmio is an awesome laptop. However, I am a diehard mac fan. Mac OS X is just plain better and so is all Mac software vs. comparable windows software. I took a pledge that when the MacBook Pro adds a DVR and a TV tuner to let me watch TV anywhere like the Qosmio, I'd buy.

I'm not a gamer but...
Feb 23, 2006 11:45AM PST

I would like apple to build a box that will finally shut all the gamers up.

I'm so tired of hearing the "If it weren't for the lack of games" routine.

The machine has nothing to do with it
Feb 23, 2006 12:01PM PST

It's the developers that aren't producing the goods on Macs. Most of them don't care. The old mentality of targeting most people, but not all.

I WANT MY MAC DVR TOO!!!
Feb 23, 2006 11:54AM PST

I'd but it right away. Imagine, connected wirelessly to my Intel iMac, sitting in my TV stand letting me access all my media on my iMac and working as a full DVR.

C'mon Mad Dog... we want it. Happy

Do somethinh handheld?
Feb 23, 2006 8:07PM PST

A range of handheld PDA like devices would be nice. No once hase done much cool with those recently.

As cool as it would be to see them ..
Feb 23, 2006 11:22PM PST

.. I don't think Apple would go down that road a second time, since the Newton didn't do all that hot, even though it was MUCH better than the Palm handhelds of the time.

Dvorak
Feb 23, 2006 8:59PM PST

Steve will announce John Dvorak was right and "we're moving to Windows."

Then, he'll bust out laughing and say "Gotcha!"

LOL
Feb 23, 2006 11:42PM PST

That would be too funny! I'd love to see pictures of the audience if he announced that! Happy

Of course, that kind of announcement would probably work best on Apple's 30th anniversary on April 1st.

That would be priceless!

One More (mini) Thing...
Feb 24, 2006 2:13PM PST

I would love to see a lower priced Mac mini. Minis are "fun", aren't they? And really, DVR aside, what Apple really needs to do is capitalize on the success of the iPod with younger consumers by offering an ultra-affordable, FUN machine (that systematically locks them up as Mac users for years to come). The 80% market share Apple holds on the mp3 player market needs to be leveraged to entice buyers to other Apple products, specifically low-priced systems.

Of course it will be dual-core, have bluetooth, wifi, blah blah.

And (in my best Steve Jobs voice), "it will cost... are you ready for this... just under five hundred dollars"

- Collapse -
I STILL say...
Feb 24, 2006 2:18PM PST

And I know that it will probably NEVER EVER HAPPEN, but if they could get a system down to $299, they would have a LOT more people buying a mac. I would strive so hard to get one too! <sighs> Anyways...

I don't know
Feb 24, 2006 11:16PM PST

the effects of bringing a computer down to that low a price would not turn out well ( I couldn't stand to see a Celeron in Mac it would hurt to much) the dual core chips are pricey and parts are as well. I am not saying Apple couldn't make a good budget low budget computer I belive they could, but the Mac Mini is at a good price point right now and going after the lowest end of the market dosen't really help brand image. Plus I would hate to see anything from them with shared graphics.

okay but...
Feb 25, 2006 10:44AM PST

What would you like to see them come out with.

The iPhone, A new hand held, A floating orb that knows the anwser to the meaning of life happiness and everything. you know things like that.

I live in a Fantasy I don't really want to know whaat's happening in the world around me. (LOL)

OH!
Feb 25, 2006 1:31PM PST

Ok, then my fantasy list:
- iPhone with built in wifi and iSight (bluetooth headset required)
- DVR just because it would be minimalistic but also work like a top
- touchscreen that you could overlay onto your existing iMac (small attachment at end would plug into firewire port) and you could realize a brand new UI

Another Possible Apple item?? Airport Express AV?
Feb 26, 2006 1:17AM PST

An updated Airport Express that would let you stream video from your iTunes to your TV? That might be fun!
