Question

Apple Mail

I have a problem where when I try to click on a new message it doesn't allow me to. I have to close the mail application and then reopen it. The other issue is when I use internet accounts it says the password is incorrect. I then go down to where I can type the password and it works. This occurs only on my iMap from roadrunner. I tried talking to Apple Care and they say it is a roadrunner problem. Roadrunner says it is an apple issue. I don't want to reinstall the operating system.

Answer
Is this the reason you are looking for a new email client?

In reply to: Apple Mail

Your password issue is probably easy to fix.

Apple Mail, like most email clients, stores your passwords so that you do not have to keep entering them when you send or receive email.
You did not say which event triggers the error message, but we'll move on.

At a guess, I would presume that you changed your password recently. Even if you didn't, try this.
Open Apple Mail and then open Preferences.
Select the Accounts tab and choose the RoadRunner account from the list in the left column.
In the Right column, empty out the password field and enter the "correct" password.
Still in the Right column, click on the up/down arrows on the "Outgoing Mail Server" field and choose Edit SMTP Server list.
Select your Server and go to Advanced.
Empty out the password field and enter the correct password.
OK out of there and close Preferences.
Should be OK now.

In system preferences It says it can't connect to the account when I put in the password. Below that it accepts the password. At times I have to keep entering the password and it takes it. I am using the correct password.

I didn't change my password. Apple care and road runner each says it is the other problem. The engineers tried working on it at Apple but the road runner people have been uncooperative saying it is not there issue.

Why are you in System Preferences?

In reply to: Password

The preferences you should be messing with are Apple Mail preferences.

I had Road Runner for years, along with an iMap account, and had no problems at all.

The only way you can set the password is in system preferences called "internet accounts". You used to be able to do it in the mail app but they changed it. Believe me I have tried many ways and also apple care did a screen share with me and they couldn't solve the problem.

This occurs only on my iMap from roadrunner.

Right there, that nails it in my view. I've seen OTHER email servers that don't work with Apple Mail so the debate question is, is Apple on the hook to make their Mail work with other servers? (the answer I have is no.)

Try this. Be sure you can get to the web email of the ISP before you lose more time.

If that works, go get Thunderbird.

If you can't log into the web email portal, fix that next.

I received 2 other mail apps that I might try. GyazMail (more similar to Mail) or MailMate (different style, more powerful in some ways).
