keeping in mind
Feb 28, 2006 11:02AM PST

Keeping in mind of course that Apple on said they would introduce something "fun", and the rest of the world (myself included) speculated about the big things that might come out of the announcement.

In a sense, the hype was created by Apple fans, the way it typically is, not by Apple themselves. The buzz off might be better directed at all the speculation vs. the company.

To me, it's fun to speculate. The tech world is driven by the notion of "wouldn't it be cool if..."

The overpriced $99 leather cases.

But don't worry, there's free shipping.

Crying wolf?

Does anyone think this might deflate Apple's self-sustaining hype just a little? The next time Apple has some big announcement, will everyone just kind of shrug and go "eh, probably another ipod speaker...", or do they have some strategy I'm not seeing; to create a buzz is one thing, to oversell yourself another..

A "fun" announcement...

Yeah, that's the kind of "hype" that I call seriously overselling yourself.

fun =

You know what they did far less than usual with this. They had an invitation only event, it was small, and all their said was fun. They usually say something along the lines of "Everything will change", instead they just said "fun". Oh and I think you are all underplaying the importance of the mac mini + frount row + HD connectivity + apple remote.

I'm glad that it was just "fun" and not "ebay time"

Well, the announcements were kinda flat honestly, but I am glad that they didn't introduce a whole new line of iPods or whatever. I just jumped onto the iPod bandwagon two months ago, and one of my greateast fears was that iPod would get another major update before I hit the 6-month mark for me. I was totally annoyed at the rumored images of the real "video' iPod. Totally ticked me off... but I will say, as the iPod is my first product from Apple as a Windows user...I found myself strangely anticipating the gathering yesterday. Have I been infected by Mad Dog's distortion field now??? Oh no! Bill give me a vaccine!

Infection does take hold

I agree Lifestar..I've only had my Nano for about 4 months now, and it was when iTunes only had music videos, so I was reluctant to purchase the video ipod, and then they came out with downloadable TV shows, which I would consider....but regardless I've now been infected by the iPod bug and eagerly check iLounge every day for the latest developments in podland...somebody create a vaccine...besides Microsoft!!!!

If Microsoft did make a vaccine

It probably wouldn't work half the time anyway. You'd have to purge your body of the vaccine and try again until it finally took. Also, you wouldn't get the most important doses when you need them, instead having to rely on the monthly distribution model.

I love just messing around with silly ideas.
