I am paying pretty good attention to whom I am replying to, but the software that you are moderating doesn't always do what the members will do...

I also find it rather strange that you as a moderator would use the "DUUUUUUH" in this case... Why did you do that? If my post wasn't addressing you, it must have been a mistake. And a mistake can be made by all of us Toni... Maybe a little more tolerance from the mods would do good.

Now back to my reply to you...

This is a very interesting statement coming from you Glenda. First it was you who refused to making a mistake but instead you chose to blame the news casters at KPHO's TV 5 Phoenix for reporting the story wrong. It wasn't until I did your research for you and found that you heard them wrong that you finally broke down and admitted making a mistake. You made this a big deal by not checking your sources after they were questioned...

Nobody even remotely crucified you Glenda. You do have a knack for exaggeration. Since your little group is notorious for ganging up on those they disagree with, it is interesting that you are now trying to play the "victim" role in this discussion. If you hadn't made a big deal about your erroneous claim, many of the posts in this thread wouldn't have been necessary. You brought this on yourself...

It has very recently become a right and that's been so thru the popular struggles (those kind of rights usually are becoming reality thru popular struggles which consist of those you call the left most of the time!).

Not until 1964 did we get total freedom of speech! The SUCO then struck down the 1798 Sedition Act (which forbade spoken or written criticism oc the governemnt, Congress, or the President!). That is very recent history..

It was actually a reply to another post here... But I chose to make it a reply to your post instead. I just wanted to point out that the FoS is relatively young in the US and that it was acheived by the struggle of those you call "left". Now, I think the left welcomes that "blame" pretty warmly...

I'm on the side of fairness and reason. That does not,
Jul 20, 2004 11:44AM PDT

however, mean that does not mean that I think that an employee is free to ignore the desires of her employer or his customers. If she does, it is perfectly reasonable if the employer decides to fire her.

Fairness says that George Bush did NOT steal an election. He won it under the laws of the land. Reason says that George Bush is a much better President than John Kerry would be.

BTW, are you suggesting that 25% of the country is extreme, right wing bigots as Dan suggested?

What NOBODY in this thread seems to have noticed....
Jul 21, 2004 1:40AM PDT

....is that Linda Rondstadt angered part of her audience by dedicating the song "Desperado" to Michael Moore. If you read the song's lyrics, you can only conclude that

a. Rondstadt was not complimenting Moore
or b. Ronstadt is unfamiliar with the words to a song she's been singing for around 30 years.

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You been out ridin' fences for so long now
Oh, you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow

Don't you draw the queen of diamonds boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet

Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get

Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home
And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walking through this world all alone

Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the night time from the day
You're losin' all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you, before it's too late

Oh and from what I heard about 1/3 of the audience walked out, and AFAIK there are NO theaters in Vegas that hold 15,000 people so Glenda's 5,000 figure is highly suspect IMO.

You too?
Jul 21, 2004 1:56AM PDT

Sheesh, she was just repeating what she heard on a TV report. Maybe she heard wrong. It's not a federal crime for crying out loud. I can't believe that most of this thread is harping over this. By now we are all aware that about half booed, half cheered, by Rondstat's own admission this had the desired effect, and about a quarter of the audience left and asked for their money back.

I wonder if Blake can back up his own claims of 5000 made recently. None of the local press accounts at the time mentioned this huge crowd that overflowed the capacity of the arena. I didn't want to make an issue out of his usual exaggerating recounts, but since he has spent many posts now beating a dead horse, let's see if he can find a press account that estimates the crowd at that rally at a number other than "around 2000".

It wouldn't have been a big deal if you hadn't made it one. When it was first pointed out that you might have been wrong, you flatly denied that this was even possible and you stood by your claim. You could have easily done a search on KPHO's TV 5 Phoenix web site and found the same thing I did and then admitted your mistake and moved on. But instead you blamed the news casters for making a mistake and challenged every post who questioned your facts. This didn't have to be a big deal, but you chose to make it one...

Thank you for finally admitting your mistake though.

Well, it took Evie to say, "Sheesh, she was just repeating what she heard on a TV report. Maybe she heard wrong.", before Glenda would say, "Oops!! I did!
Hear wrong that is! I am so sorry,.."

Glenda could have easily avoided the tix for tat with me over what R BIBB posted and also other posts, by just saying the same thing she is now saying to Evie... but nooooo.......

It really was a non-issue until Glenda turned it into a big deal. The "gang" as you suggest simply pointed out Glenda's blatant error. It was Glenda who refused to back down as she personally insulted those who would dare challenge her "facts". It's too bad that Glenda continued fighting this silly battle until I was forced to find the link from KPHO's TV 5 Phoenix own web site to refute her claim. Glenda could have done that research herself, but she chose to defend her wildly inaccurate claim till the end. Glenda brought this on herself. No one else is to blame here as you are attempting to suggest...

St. Pete Police Dept Estimated The Crowd At Nearly 10,000...

For a smart lady, you sure can say some of the dumbest things at times. My account was my personal estimate of the crowd while Glenda's was what she claimed she heard by the news casters at KPHO's TV 5 Phoenix. If my number had been challenged, I would have been happy to search for information to support or refute my claim, which I have done below. Glenda didn't bother and forced me to do her research for her. A quick search of KPHO's TV 5 Phoenix web site clearly showed that Glenda heard her news casters wrong which she has yet to admit...

I will now admit that I was wrong. I under-estimated the size of the crowd by about 100%. Here is what was reported in the St. Petersburg Times...

The St. Petersburg Police Department generously estimated the crowd at nearly 10,000. Only about 2,000 got into the historic Coliseum for the event, which started about 10 p.m. and lasted about 45 minutes. After the rally, Kerry and Edwards went outside to greet supporters.

Of course, instead of stirring the water, you could have found this article from the St. Pete Times yourself. I have now had to do the research work for both you and Glenda in this thread...
