Apparent 'Add Hardware' software corruption

Aug 29, 2007 8:16AM PDT

I seem to be unable to install any new hardware on my system. Existing hardware performs normally but even changing from one simple memory card reader to a new one the system doesn't recognise it. I tried to install a new laser printer using the maker's driver and eventually got 'not installed correctly - the hardware may not work' Too right it didn't. It just looks as if the installing software has got corrupted. Help would be greatly appreciated.
