I didn't say it before...

...but I'm of the opinion that rushing retail items to capitalize profits on this particular film is in poor taste. I'm trying to remember if that was done during Schindler's List? Did they market Holocaust trinkets then or not? I really don't remember any.

I'm reminded of those silversmiths, I think in Ephesus, that were upset at Apostle Paul's teachings because they feared it would interfere with their profits in selling their idols. I also recall a disparaging statement made about those who were "peddlers of God's word".

However, if people are willing to wear a crucifix, a symbol of death, around their neck, then maybe nails aren't so bad either.

It's one of those things I sort of try to overlook in hope the greater part will be the impact of the movie on people's perception of what Christ suffered and why he accepted the assignment.

So, does your pastor have a regular job so that the church doesn't pay him or her?

Since Gibson is not tempting anyone to worship idols, and is genuinely committed to telling the story of Christ, he does not fit in either category that you mention.

On the other hand, the Bible says (1 Tim 5:18 NIV) 'For the Scripture says, "Do not muzzle the ox while it is treading out the grain," and "The worker deserves his wages."'. Does this not mean that Mel Gibson is entitled to a reasonable profit on his work, and aren't these items part of earning that profit? Let's not forget that there is nothing new or inappropriate about the items being sold.

If he can't recover his investment plus a reasonable return, how can we expect that more movies like this will be made? Jesus did not expect His followers to take a vow of poverty.

Just curious, Kiddpeat....

Just curious, Kiddpeat, how does the subject of worshiping idols figure into this particular Mel Gibson movie?

As far as I know, it doesn't.

I haven't seen the film yet, but will within the week.

The comment on idols came from James who seemed to suggest that something about the movie's marketing was reminiscent of those who manufactured idols.

'I'm reminded of those silversmiths, I think in Ephesus, that were upset at Apostle Paul's teachings because they feared it would interfere with their profits in selling their idols. I also recall a disparaging statement made about those who were "peddlers of God's word"'

He also is the one that gave me advice that helped me keep Mom alive in those years she refused dialysis, by using alternative, medically sound methods.

Hi, Dan.

I got a SPAM in my e-mail today for my chance to get an "official Passion of the Christ nail necklace," from "Passion of Christ [email@41.moosq.com]" Even has the variable number so you can't block the site Sad IMCO, definitely NWJWD (NOT What Jesus would do!)

The spammer probably has no association with Mel Gibson or any of his marketing group.

Surely you would recognize that. Do you think every advertisement you get for Viagra is sanctioned by it's maker? Spam is spam, and most of that is probably a con.
