Iphone 3gs with iOS 3.x

I haven't update iOS since I got my iphone but i did jailbreak an year ago with "Spirit"

Questions.
1> recently my iphone battery ran out of battery completely. After I recharge the battery, several problems start. I can't open many app (many of them download from apple itune store). And I can't get the time and date update with T-mobile.
2. New iOS keeps getting updated. I hear newer iOS require more powerful hardware to run them smoothly. Do I have to keep updating my iphone 3gs with latest iOS? Will it slow down my phone if I update?

Thanks for any input or answer

You never are quite sure. At our office we don't touch such things since it's never a sure thing it would work right.

You should go with what works for you.

No one I know can accurately predict which will work for you but when it comes to jailbreaking a phone, at the office we can't help. We tried a while back and quickly learned it can't be supported. That is, you do that, you get to support it.

As for me, I would not like to update the OS, because I do not hope it has some unexpected problem after update.
