Question

App Crash - Kernelbase.dll Please help!

Apr 29, 2015 11:38PM PDT

Hello all,

This is my first post on this forum. Great to be here!

Can anyone help me with this? I'm pretty sure it started happening after a Windows Update three weeks back. I tried to do a System Restore only to find out that there were no Restore Points created :S Really weird. Here's the error :

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: MixedInKey.exe
Application Version: 4.0.1.2
Application Timestamp: 0000001f
Fault Module Name: KERNELBASE.dll
Fault Module Version: 6.1.7601.18798
Fault Module Timestamp: 5507b485
Exception Code: e0434f4d
Exception Offset: 0000c42d
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

Mixed In Key is a software I use almost daily & whenever I try to open it now is when I am encountering that error message. All other apps work fine.

Also, I have tried sfc/scannow but no errors. I've also uninstalled, deleted, reinstalled that app including some older versions. Just not happening.

Also uninstalled/installed .net framework. Does it have anything to do with registry perhaps?

Any help would be really appreciated Happy

Clarification Request
If it's only with the Mixed in Key software.

Your best bet is to work with them on it. They will be getting calls like yours.

As to SR, Norton and other security can interfere but I'd fix that or think again about your backups. If this is for work/production, backup is not optional.

Any further help?

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply! I have checked MIK forums and tried their solutions but to no avail. Is it something to do with registry perhaps? Anything else that could have caused this error?

As for System Restore, I think it may have to do with lack of space on C drive during that time. I have cleared it up and I can see that restore points are being created. And yes, I have back ups created just in case.

Registry? No. Unless...

The only time I encounter registry issues are when folk took registry cleaner/optimizers to the OS. Sadly the cure rate on those is very low. Say about 90% of the time I'll have to reload the OS.

-> About SR. Try this. Turn it off and back on. That gives it a fresh start. Sorry folk but SR is not that solid. Microsoft? NT (nice try.)

Since it's only this app, the cause is usually some security change issued by MSFT to end an exploit vector. For example a few years ago MSFT removed EMS/LIM support and a lot of apps crashed. Some folk nodded, others screamed but we are asking for more security and in the move, some apps will have to be updated.

-> Parting idea. Create a new admin capable Windows user account and install that app again in that account.
