"app.bl87yElQuTvEqlk4yz4YZQ.6" shutdown message

by phobetor / March 13, 2008 12:19 PM PDT

I'm on windows XP and when shutting down I have been seeing a message that "app.bl87yElQuTvEqlk4yz4YZQ.6" is not responding and needs to shut down. I've run scans with AVG virus protection and Spyware Terminator, both of which are up to date, without any results. A file search of my system also turns up nothing. I haven't noticed anything strange other than the message during shutdown, but I sure would like to know what this is and how many other people have seen it.
Thanks for any help that you can offer.

Thanks, but............

Also tried that and it reappeared within a couple of days. My system also receives auto updates from MS frequently. A big problem is that a person would only know if it is in their system if it has trouble quitting at shutdown....thus the message. I suspect that there may be many people that have this running and it doesn't have any trouble at shutdown so they never see the message at shutdown. Also, there probably aren't a lot of people watching their monitor after hitting the shutdown button.

CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM FOUND - app.bl87yElQuTvEqlk4yz4YZQ.6
by jwstrand / August 1, 2008 4:21 PM PDT

Hello!
After much testing and re-installing of software, I have determined
that the cause of the error message "app.bl87yElQuTvEqlk4yz4YZQ.6"
is the new AOL Instant Messenger program.
My advice is not to install this program. Someone please write them
and tell them of this problem!!
Thanks!
