APEX DVD/VCR Repair question

Jul 8, 2005 4:54AM PDT

ADV-3800 DVD/VCR Combo. We stopped getting video when playing DVDs, only sound. Video tapes work fine. Is this worth taking in to the shop or is it likely to cost more to fix than replace?

Why not one post?

The answer is that repair exceeds replacement costs where I live. If you can't fix it yourself, then you get a new one.

Hope this helps.

Didn't think of it at the time.

I originally was only going to ask about the one TV, then thought of the others. So this one is not worth taking in to the shop then, in your opinion?

Depends on the shop.

Some will give free estimates, but most don't. It may be a way to dispose of the item since here you have to pay 8 to more dollars for a disposal tag.

They have a bench fee for checking it.

$60 I believe, which goes toward the service cost if we have them go ahead and fix it.

A dvd/vcr combo is not much more. You may have such a store in your country.

Yup

We got this one on sale at Walmart for about $70 so the more I think about it the more I think why am I wasting my time and yours on this one. The RCA tv question, on the other hand, was different. It would be worth it to me if we could get it working for $100 or less, but I don't want to spend 60 bucks to find out it will cost several hundred to fix.

I had a big screen repair done recently.

And since I had already the service charge of a visit, I had him fix one other set and it's charge was .. 60 bucks. It was a nice Tosh 27inch that I liked and if they had to tack on the trip charge, it would have been toast.
