AOL via Mac Mail

Nov 4, 2006 4:39AM PST

After being away from Mac for many years, I finally bought a new Mac Pro for home use. I'm using OS X ver 10.4.8. I'm trying to use Mac Mail to get to my AOL account, and am having a devil of a time using IMAP to send mail. I went to http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/applemail.html and followed the instructions - still unable to send or forward mail.

Any suggestions?

Ahh, the joys of AOL

I'm surprised you are still using it.

I have not had any experience with setting Mail to retrieve mail from AOL using the Mac Mail client but the instructions seem straight forward enough.
What error message, if any, do you get when you try to receive mail?

The error comes only when I try to send mail. I get the following:

The sender address seeray96@aol.com was rejected by the server

Very likely, but in setting Preferences for the account, I only used one password - the one I regularly use to sign-on to AOL.

Mac Mail issue
Sep 8, 2007 7:33AM PDT

Regarding: When I try to send mail. I get the following: "The sender address seeray96@aol.com was rejected by the server."

Were you ever able to get this resolved? I am having the same problem, and nothing I read/try seems to correct it. Mine is not AOL, but Yahoo.

Mac OS X (10.4.10); Mac Mail version 2.1

Hey, it worked for me.

That works as long as you choose "password" in the drop down box.

The server may not be the AOL server.

I've been using Yahoo Mail for quite a while now, and some time ago, I got an email from AT&T-Yahoo recommending that I change my incoming and outgoing server ports. Performance didn't diminish or increase, but maybe that's the case.

Try checking your AOL preferences and see if it recommendes what ports to use.
Then under Mail, check your Account preferences, both account info and advanced settings.

Make sure Mail and your AOL settings match. It could be that whatever ports Mail set up for your AOL account are incorrect according to AOL, thus your messages get rejected.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Bob,

I was unaware of such rules; it won't happen again. Once again, thanks for your concern.

Mail and AOL may not match... yet

Or it could be something else entirely. I sometimes get messages on in Mail that don't show up online and vice versa. It may be that whenever you set up your Mail Account info when you got the Mac, you accidentally entered something wrong. Check all of your preferences to make sure.

Hope this helps,
