I've been a AOL user for over 10 years. The only dialup isp I can find that will not disconnect me for no activity.
Just got a new computer. Compaq 64bit AMD from Circuit City. Runs XP home. (motorola modem)
I installed AOL and can logon, the problem is I get a message "Modem cannot detect a dialtone". I can hear the dialtone (with modem sound on). I just click OK to get rid of the dialog box and logon succesfully.
I contacted AOL, they had me check all the modem settings - did not help. They had me delete the AOL connectivity files. That did not work. They had me re-install AOL, that did not work.
I got a trial account with SBC.yahoo, and it logs on with no problem.
Can anyone suggest a fix for the AOL dialup?
Thanks,
Bill
