AOL dynamic IP address VS Static

Apr 26, 2005 11:14AM PDT

OK easy question for some.. for me I'm scratching my head after several conversations with AOL.. who would have guessed that.

Here is the senerio, 1. Presently home computer connected to AOL DSL with Dynamic IP address - line provider SBC.

2. Wife getting new laptop from work.. so she can work from home. Her work provider needs a STATIC IP address.

3. AOL says they cannot provide static IP address - problem !

4. The question, I want to keep AOL as my ISP, can I connect to AOL using a static IP address ?

5. My thoughts are that I have to call AOL, drop the DSL line, keeping my basic account and when SBC connects new DSL Static IP.. I can connect up to AOL in the same manner as before. INPUTS pls

Dave.. with deer in head lights look awaiting someone in the know !! Happy
