Anyone uses: SmartFix v1.7.0 ??

Feb 12, 2004 11:21AM PST

just read in Lockergnome:

{System and security repair} Put away the toolbox as it's not needed for this kind of repair. SmartFix is a security repair tool for fixing and eliminating pesky bugs and problems that slow down your computer. The system monitor is a small toolbar with information on how long the computer has been up along with its memory information. It cleans disk drives, it battles pop-ups, it saves laptop energy, it defrags, it protects against security attacks, and it monitors activity - repairing problems as they appear. Consider this your little Mr. PC fix-it feller. [Meryl]

No idea how it will work. Might try to test it into my test machine. Thanks for the link.

I tried Smart fix this afternoon. WinMe, IE6, SP1 with all current updates, AVG free, ZAF, (all programs set to prompt for access), Bellsouth DSL. Everything working fine prior to installation. After installation I could connect to server, but neither IE, (this page cannot be displayed), or OE would connect. Zone Alarm didn't prompt when I used IE, but did when I used OE, but no connection. I disabled Smart fix, that didn't help. I checked IE settings, nothing appears to have been changed. Uninstalled smart fix, after restart the IE desktop icon was gone. Repaired IE, restarted, still no IE icon, and no connection with IE or OE. I restarted again and now OE works, but not IE, and icon is still missing. I have MYIE2 on this box and it works. Also, Zone Alarm log is now showing outgoing connection attempts by windows explorer. There's no consistancy in the timing of the attempts. So far, I wouldn't recommend Smart Fix.

sorry to hear you tried it out and had problems with it. Had you checked ALL the items shown in the screenshot??

I really wonder about it after YOU are having so much problems. Why would Lockergnome mention it if it is that "buggy" ??

Did you make a restore point before trying it out?? This way you can always go back.

Your welcome Marianna. I didn't check all the items on the list, I left the settings on the default from install which had left about one third unchecked. I did uncheck everything, close the program and restart it to see if that would solve it, it didn't. I probably should have tried checking them all, but I didn't. I hadn't thought of a restore point, I have the, "restore shows date of December xx, 1899" problem that I haven't gone into the registry to fix yet. I know just enough to be dangerous so I've been putting it off. OOPS. By the way, thanks for all your hard work and good advice. I've learned a lot from you and everyone here. Kevin

Thanks for that tip. I KNEW someone must have come up with a fix for that. I plugged that into google in every combination I could think of and came up with nothing. I should have just asked you. After I replied to your message I checked system restore, just in case, and I had several restore points. I have no idea how that happened. I sure didn't fix it. I ran it and everything is fine now, the only program that needed re-updating was Ad Aware. Thanks for your help.
