Anyone use a 6600GT/6800 with T6212?

May 10, 2005 11:11AM PDT

Hey All,

So I am sold on a 6600GT PCI-E for the T6212 but I keep reading about the power requirements and am worried the stock psu will just not work out.

Is anyone out there currently using a T6212 with a 6600GT PCI-E or 6800 whichever since they both need a lot of power, as I understand it.

If so, have you replaced the power supply and if you did what did you put in it? I understand also since it's Emachines it (the psu) may be a irregular size but it would be nice to hear from someone who has replaced one for more information about upgrading it.

Lastly, is it true that the BIOS is locked (and can never be upgraded) by Emachines so you cannot overclock any components, besides the grfx card of course since software in Windows seems to handle it. So you can't even set the voltage for your ram or anything. I hope that's not true.

Thanks,

Hey,

Ya well I guess no big deal about the oc but I don't like their tactics much. I guess to protect themselves with replacments from people like me who want to oc lol.

I'm just gonna buy the BFG 6600gt OC PCI-E and put the thing in there (T6212) and see what happens lol.

Someone told me not to get this model but I have read many reviews about it being good but a bit overpriced and it's available in my retail local. I probably should not oc it tho I guess lol. Surely it has enough power stock oc'd already to do the job well enough.

I am going to put 2-512MB PC3200 400Mhz sticks in it too. Hopefully it will be issue free. I will be posting either way so we will see Silly

Gonna also put in a wireless-g card and take the modem card out i guess. Not sure if it draws power when idle but no need for it in there. Hope the wireless card doesn't use much power geesh. All worried about having enough power for the damn video card. Will be sweet if it all works tho lol.

But need retail....
May 11, 2005 8:06AM PDT

Hey,

I have to get what I buy retail and I haven't seen that one in any stores in my area. But I will be getting the 6600gt whoever offers it retail.

Been looking at the BFG 6600GT OC and it is available around my area. Part of my need to buy retail is my ability to take it right back and get a refund. So this is what I will do if I am not satisfied and try a different model or if nothing there then I will have to order online I guess.

So we will see next week one way or another how the 300w psu stands up to the 6600gt LOL!

Also if you find any info please post it.

Thanks,

SeaninWa

May 13, 2005 5:14PM PDT

does'nt the power supply needs depend on what other
parts are there in ur computer?

the average power for a computer.

Calculating Power Supply
May 13, 2005 6:04PM PDT

Here is one that I have used in configuration of power supply:
http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/

Hard to say how the different card factory's determine the minimum power supply. Power supply minimum's can be different depending on who's ad specs you read.
For instance the XFX factory on their Nvidia AGP GF 6800 reads 300W minimum. The TigerDirect ad specs for the same card reads 350W minimum. The same with Nvidia GF 6600GT, but different makers.

Course' it depends on the quality of the Power Supply. Maybe an Antec gives a better stable 300Watts than a Palooka 350W or 400/450W running the video card and everything else on the PC.

Willie posted some info just this PM on power supply and how to generally figure.

Jul 21, 2005 4:28AM PDT

Hi, I have a T6212. After I bought it, I added 2 sticks of Corsair Value Select RAM, and after THAT I added a Gigabyte 6600gt graphics card. So far, absolutely no issues with power supply or temperature. I even OC'd the car to 550/1070 Happy

I chose the Chaintech 6600GT when I recently built a new system. It's great and no power problems. My system PSU is an Antec 430 watt.

6600 GT OC....
May 18, 2005 7:01AM PDT

I used the 6600GT OC and two additional 512 sticks of ram with no problems. I did eventualy get a new 450 Watt PSU. You don't need it, your computer will run, but Nvidia recomends at least a 400 Watt PSU. Hope this helps, rick.

This is the PSU I'm using for my T6212
May 21, 2005 5:50AM PDT

I bought a Mad Dog 450W (500 watt max) power supply from CompUSA for $80. It has 3 dual ball bearing fans and a fan selector swithch. You can put it on Auto, low, or full speed. It seems to be working great.

The Mad Dog SurePower 450W PSU is what I have. You need no extra cables or parts, only a screwdriver.

6600 gt with 827gm
May 18, 2005 10:24AM PDT

Hi all,
I purchased the Gateway 827GM last week at CC for $725. The 827GM and T6212 have the same MoBo. I got off the phone with Gateway tech today and was told that any Nvidia card would not work with the 827GM. Is this possible considering there are posters claiming that the 6600GT is working with no problems with their T6212? I don't get it.

Thanks................Tom

6600 nVidia card with 827GM
Jul 20, 2005 4:11AM PDT

Just installed a GeForce 6600 nVidia card in my 827GM after checking with Gateway support. They allowed that it would work, even though the manual says to use only ATI cards.

They also said to set the BIOS to disable the onboard video, but on my system there is no such BIOS setting. After considerable run-around, some Gateway techs allowed that my system would automatically disable the onboard video if a card is installed in the PCI-Express slot. this is what appears to have happened. The extra RAM is freed up and the new card appears to be working perfectly, after four days of intensive use.

The system is considerably faster in almost every operation. Great improvement.
