Re: "load" ? Do you mean to open a '.CAB' ?

In reply to: anyone know how to load cab files without the windows cd?

A .CAB file is just a compression of one, or many, files. Very similar to .ZIP files.

This is from WinZip's help file: "The Microsoft CAB (short for Cabinet) format is used by most Microsoft setup programs, including those used to install Windows. CAB files provide both file compression and file grouping. You can use WinZip to open and extract the contents of CAB files."

There are at least several very good and free decompressing tools that can also open .CAB files.

Such as:
TugZip at http://www.tugzip.com/
ZipGenius at http://www.zipgenius.it/index_eng.htm
IZArc at http://www.izsoft.dir.bg/
and there are others as well. Search and you will find.

Motive,

Which operating system are you using and what are you trying to do?

IF the "Cabs" were installed on the hard drive, and you didn't tell us which operating system you're working with, in Windows 98, they will reside in the "C\Windows\Options\Cabs" folder. On Windows ME, I believe they will reside in the "C\Windows\Options\Install" folder.

You can extract specific system files from the cabs by finding the location for the file you need in the various cabs that are stored there.

Hope this helps.
