You've got your basic RTS (Real-Time Strategy) games, like StarCraft and Warcraft, which center around building up a base, or town, and all the things that go along with it... Then there's your SimCity sort of games. May even be a few in between those.

Either way, you should be able to go to some game review site, look up any of those titles, and be able to get a list of similar games.
