Yes to both parts of your question. i have owned mine for a couple of months now. i purchased the package with the mixamp and headset.
i would consider myself a pretty serious/hardcore gamer, and sound is extremely important in the games i play. i was skeptical with the price tag of both coming up just short of $300 with shipping. but upon receiving this set-up, i was absolutely blown away. just the build of everything is amazing, great design, comfortable and sturdy. there have been times ive been playing, and forget that im even wearing headphones. as for sound quality, its second to none for gaming specific headsets. the 5.1 dolby digital processing also really shines through, ive had to take my headphones on a few occasions because i thought there was sound coming from my speaker setup as well, the dolby technology does an amazing job of replicating a home audio system. i wont get to deep into details, but there are many helpful reviews online about this headset, and most of them are pretty accurate. ive played with trittons, turtle beach and many other headsets. IMO, nothing compares to these at this point in time.
hope ive helped out.
Not too sure why Cnet has not reviewed these. I would like to get someones opinion about these headphones.
