Anyone have the Tamron 70-300 zoom macro lens?

I have a canon digital rebel and I was ready to buy the canon 70-200 f4 zoom lens after much review, and lay out 500 plus, but the sales clerk at B&H talked me into this Tamron 700-300 macro zoom lens. He said that it was excellent quality. I figued if he ws talking me out of the Canon, which was 400 more, he must be right. I can not find any reviews about it online. Does anyone have this lens? Like or dislike? It feels a little heavy.
