Anyone have a problem with iMovie and Apreture3.1

I have this combination of software and when I installed the new iLife11 - I see the following problem:
iLife11 - iMovie never returns from scan of Apreture3.1

I just installed the new iLife. Before starting any of the new programs I did a software update and downloaded and installed the new iPhoto update.

When starting iMovie I get a progress bar with the message of scanning my Apreture Library for new Event movies. The Apreture3.1 lib is 6GB+. It never returns - I have left it for 3 hours and still it just says it is scanning.
Finally had to force quit.
I used terminal to change ownership of my Pictures directory to root:staff then re-run iMove which then starts fine.

If I exit iMovie then change perms back on the Pictures dir and start iMovie again I am back to the scanning for new Events message.
Is this a bug or something I need to be patient about?

I have a mid year iMac 8gb ram, core i7 cpu with the latest updates. I am new to the Mac but have extensive unix knowledge.
