Anyone have a CompUSA External IDE HDD Enclosure?

Apr 22, 2007 1:25AM PDT

Hello!

I'm looking for someone who has a CompUSA USB 2.0 3.5" External HDD Enclosure. I was hoping that someone who has one could give me the voltage and amperage from the power supply (I've lost mine) in hopes that I can modify another, similar transformer.

If you could also take a picture of the power supply, that might help me in case I do actually have it hanging around in a box of old electronics and cables. Please e-mail it to me at xyanwarrior at yahoo dot com.

Thank you very much in advance!

I have two of these cases, they work great. Unfortunately I'm in the same boat as you: I mixed up a bunch of my power adapters when I moved recently. Now I have about 20 power bricks that fit these enclosures, but I don't want to take a chance with plugging in the wrong Voltage or Amps power supply and run the risk of damaging the enclosure or the harddrive plugged into it.

If you've figured out what power requirements this enclosure has, please reply to this.

Figured it out...
Dec 14, 2007 3:32PM PST

I figured out which power supply it needs. I first tried one which had OUTPUT: 9VDC 1000mA. The light came on when turning on the power switch, but it was a bit faint and you could hear the drive cycling over and over. When connected via USB to a computer, the computer never saw the external drive.

I then tried a 2nd power supply which did work. The working one has the following details:
SUNNY switching adapter
Model: SYS1298-1812-W2
Part No: SYS1298-1812
INPUT: 100-240V-1.0A MAX
30-40VA, 50-60Hz
OUTPUT: +12V === 1.5A
OUTPUT POWER: 18W MAX.
Made in China.
It also has a sticker on it with "0505010492".

Hope this helps someone! Now if I could only find a second one buried in a box somewhere....

THE LESSON...always TAG any AC adapter to reflect the

MFG, Model #, etc., of the device it goes with. I use strings tags with reinforced holes ... nothing elaborate and it's a life saver. Just too many electronic devices around the house to keep them straight .. especially when there's no reference or apparent relationship between
the adapter and the device it goes to.

Takes a minute ... could save hours and more.

I just came across this post as I was trying to figure out what the heck this adapter goes to. I have no clue, it was in my box-o-chargers lol. I finally decided to weed them all out and get rid of the ones I don't need. I am not sure who needed the charger but I have one if you still need it

IT'S YOURS!
Feb 27, 2008 1:05AM PST

But you gotta tell me what it's for lol. This is killing me. The only thing I came up with, was this musical animated Christmas thingie that I don't even have anymore. It looks brand new. But like I said before, I have so many chargers that I have collected, cell phone chargers, remote control cars, keyboards, etc.
Anyway, since I don't know what it is for, I obviously don't need it. So it's yours. No charge. BUT YOU GOTTA TELL ME WHAT IT IS!! Happy

Do you still have this power supply? This item was supplied with a hard drive enclosure that I purchased from Comp USA. My power supply will no longer power the unit. And the only place I could find a replacement was in England and they required a order of ten or more. Let me know if your still interested in parting with yours. I will make arraignments for shipping at no cost to you. Let me know if we can move forward and how to contact you for your shipping address. Thanks for your time and consideration.

Hi Kedwards44,

I'd be happy to send you a check to cover shipping on the adapter.

I have the same issues as the previous posters. I bought a CompUSA enclosure at a garage sale but it didn't include the power adapter. I figured that any 12v adapter would do. Wrong -- apparently, the enclosure is very picky about its power input.

You can contact me at royzim(at)yahoo(dot)com

Thanks for your generous offer.

Sunny Switching Adapter

Hi all,

My adapter just broke somehow, maybe due to an overcharge. I was looking for one on google and I came across this forum.
If somebody has this adapter, with the same characteristics of the ones you've been talking about, I'm interested in buying it.
Thanks

Wouldn't you know it. I copied and pasted the link in the preceeding message, and the cockeyed thing still doesn't work. When you get to insidecomputer.com - in the left side menu, click on AC Adapters. You'll see that bad boy on that page. Still $9.99 !!

My order came today 8/4/2010 - just what the doctor ordered. Same as factory original. These are brand new and in perfect condition. Well worth the $9.99. I wouldn't post an endorsement here if they weren't top notch. This is not a rip off. Inside Computer company is A-OK.
