Generally, with Internet, you get what you pay for. What speed do you pay for VPN with them? And did you ask if they have a faster option to subscribe to?
I recently switched ISP. Previously had Comcast 75/15. Speed tests to speedtest.net actually yielded 90Mbit down, and I got similar results when running the VPN software as well. I have switched to a new fiber based connection with 1Gbps download. Tests to speedtest.net yield about 940Mbits, but on VPN, I can't seem to get above 90Mbit/s regardless of what server I use. When I run tests against PIAs speed test page for their networks and am off the VPN software, I still get 90Mbit/s. I'm curious if anyone is able to consistently get above 100Mbit/s with PIA VPN servers? If so, I may need to address with my ISP to determine what I may need to change, but if the limitation is on PIAs end as I'm starting to suspect, I won't bother my ISP.
