Anyone else seeing odd forum behavior?

Mar 9, 2004 8:06AM PST

I swear I posted a message about this before I went to bed this morning, and it's no where to be seen.

I've seen some oddities. At first I put them down to IE glitches here. I know if IE hangs and doesn't close normally, it won't retain the marking as read correctly.

This morning, I went to drag a link from the tree to another window to open and instead I got a new Speakeasy tree with it at the top.

Then another thread I had read most of it and it showed marked as read. When I clicked on the last post in thread, I ended up on first post of thread with all marked not read.

I tend to suspect something in IE here, but was wondering if anyone else seeing anything like this.

Hi Roger

I have not had any of the problems you are having with SE, But over the past two weeks I have had days when SE would not load or barely crawl. I use IE also.

Could be the Dial-up server I'm on, but only seems to happen with SE.

Hi Del

Strange isn't it Del. I had no trouble today. Other days its unreal. Only during the day. Must be high traffic volumn out there at certain times.

I have signed in to the forum, in the middle of reading a post, I then get a DNS failure issued.
I cannot do anything after that, and have to completely close down my browser, and restart it and find everything is ok again ??????

SE seems to be fairly unstable and full of surprises

I use Mozilla. Have had posts dissappear but the thread count go up, and other minor oddities. Have stopped worrying about it though as the problems seem to come and go!

That is probably the best way of looking at the situation - all sorts of things can gum up the works :( NT

I am using Opera for the forum I start out on page 1
Read a post and click on Back to SE and it will send me to page 2! WeirdHappy

Yes, I'm seeing odd behavior as well ...

Some of the posts I've made seem to disappear into cyberspace. I'm using IE 6. I'm not seeing any problems anyplace else I visit.

Once in a while...

...I will post an answer in a subthread and instead of it appearing where I put it, it finds it's way as an answer to the initial post instead. There doesn't seem any pattern as to the when and why. So, I don't see it where I expected it, and post it again.

The other thing is long threads, even if the post I'm opening is short, take longer to load. Along that same line, if I run a Find (NS 4.Cool it will only work on the post and not the threaded part. In the old forum to find new posts on a particular day in a long thread I used to put that date in Find and let it locate them. Can't do that now. I haven't checked to see if IE or NS7 have the same behaviour.

A little strangeness-

Hi Roger,

I've noticed over the past couple weeks little things like wrong links opening or other things that made me think, "Oh, I must have..." when I really don't think I did.

I wonder if they're playing with the features and it's affecting us here out front?

several seconds?! I've had it hang...

...for several minutes sometimes, especially the last 2-3 days. When I tried to reply to this one I timed it at 48 seconds, which was faster than earlier today. I've taken to opening ten threads and then going back to the first and deal with it while the others finish downloading. Twice today I've gotten the "stalled" message in Netscape and had to clk Reload to get it to resume. I was using Verizon to connect, so I switched over to my Yahoo acct, but same problem.

Hi, James.

When that happens, I make a copy and stop the process (after a minute or so). I can usually start again by either hitting the button (if you don't get a blank screen on stopping) or by hitting the "back" button. If not -- that's why I made a copy!

Hi, Roger.

I think the problem is the availability of the "back to forum" link at the top of the page with the "post" button -- I'm sure that when this happens, I thought I'd posted but really had only previewed, and so accidentally dumped the message by jumping to the forum thread list prematurely.
